Letting Go Like the Autumn Leaves

Soft watercolor of golden autumn leaves falling on a forest path with a gentle angelic glow

Hello dear friends,

Late October is such a tender time. The trees are almost bare now. The last leaves hang on for a little while, and then, one breezy afternoon, they let go.

I love to stand still and watch them fall. They don’t hurry. They twirl and float and drift, and then they rest softly on the ground. There is something so peaceful about it.

The trees are not sad about letting go. They know it is part of the season. They rest through the winter, and when spring comes, new green buds appear. Letting go makes room for something new.

Maybe there is something you are ready to let go of, too. An old worry. A tired habit. A heavy feeling you have carried for a while. You don’t have to push it away. You can simply open your hands, like a tree, and let it drift.

I like to remember that the angels are close by in these quiet moments. They are with us when we hold on, and they are with us when we let go.

A Simple Leaf-Noticing Practice

Here is a gentle practice you can try this week. It only takes a few minutes.

  1. Go outside, or sit by a window where you can see a tree.
  2. Take a few slow breaths and let your shoulders soften.
  3. Watch for one falling leaf. Follow it with your eyes until it lands.
  4. As it lands, ask yourself softly: “What am I ready to let go of?”
  5. Picture that thing as a leaf, gently floating down and coming to rest.
  6. Imagine your angels standing beside you, warm and kind, smiling.
  7. Say “Thank you” in your heart for this season, just as it is.

An Optional Calming Breath

If you would like, you can add this calming breath, inspired by my Reiki practice. Place one hand on your heart and one hand on your belly. Breathe in slowly and imagine soft golden light filling your chest. Breathe out slowly and imagine a leaf drifting down. Repeat three times, or as many times as feels good.

That’s all. There is no right or wrong way to do this. Just notice, breathe, and be gentle with yourself.

If a leaf lands near you this week, I would love to hear about it. What did you choose to let go of? Small moments like these can be beautiful gifts.

Thank you for being here with me this autumn.

Sending Love and Energy,
Elizabeth
