A Candlelight Grounding for Darker Evenings

Hello dear friends,

The evenings are arriving earlier now. By suppertime the sky is already turning deep blue, and the world outside grows quiet.

I’ve come to love this part of the year. The early dark feels like a gentle invitation to slow down, come inside, and settle.

Lately I’ve been lighting a small candle as the daylight fades. It’s a simple way to mark the end of the day and feel a little more grounded before the evening begins. I often sense the angels close by in these quiet moments, like soft company at my side.

If you’d like to try it, here is the little practice I use.

A Simple Candlelight Grounding

  1. Find a cozy spot and light a small candle, or turn on a soft lamp.
  2. Sit comfortably with both feet resting on the floor.
  3. Take three slow breaths, letting each exhale be a little longer than the inhale.
  4. Gaze softly at the light and notice its warm glow.
  5. Imagine gentle roots growing from the soles of your feet down into the earth, holding you steady.
  6. Silently say, “I am here. I am safe. I am held.”
  7. Rest for a minute or two, then thank the day and gently blow out the candle.

That’s all. There’s nothing to get right. Even a few quiet breaths can help the evening feel softer. (And please never leave a candle burning unattended.)

As the nights grow longer, may you find your own small light to come home to.

Sending Love and Energy,
Elizabeth
